Unencumbered by style or commerce, my approach to making art is resolute on focusing attention to structure and unity, the development of spatial tension, to colour, shape and placement; ultimately using all of these to express emotions. These principles guide my technique, confidently grounded in gestural abstraction, to produce works that are primarily about how I see my environment and how I feel in it.
Constant, thorough observations of my surroundings are transposed onto canvas, wood or paper using paint, ink, crayon and pencil along with sanding, scratching and scrubbing; removing then reapplying media until satisfied that each work expresses exactly what I wish it to.
I am also an experienced graphic designer and illustrator, lecturer in visual and performance art education and currently working as a visual artist and illustrator from my studio in Northcote, Victoria, Australia.
